US Energy Policy

Our slow response in the areas of global warming and renewable energy will put us in the back seat when it comes time to seriously pursue renewable energy technology. We will have to buy all of the technology from foreign nations. Even China is way ahead of us.

It's been hot lately?

Not where I live! Even today with some sun was more like fall than the 5th of July!

The picture is just a tad bigger than today.

Are you having trouble with your television, Poppatuf?

China's legislators are mainly clever engineers. Our legislators are mainly tricky LAWYERS.

I'd say, fix our infrastructure by a $1-a-gallon increase on gasoline, resume drilling US sources of energy—all the while letting our superior Capitalist system work out the inadequacies of alternative energies over time.

I don't think Americans realize just how much energy we use or how little can be captured through current "alternative" technologies. (And that our energy demand increases 4% each year).

All Government will do is buy (and repair) "Government Motors" vehicles for their own use, give "Government Motors" vehicles away as "Foreign Aid", and watch as we "Subjects of The Obama" refuse to buy millions of inadequate "Government Motors" vehicles built by indolent and inadequate Union Labor.

PTW, you are suggesting a one dollar per gallon gas tax increase?

Yes. The tax could build nuclear plants and refineries for our own domestic energy, plus sell some to Canada. Some of the revenue could be IRS-credited to the purchase of lighting, and solar- and wind-driven devices.

That will help wean us off foreign oil, start businesses, and automatically/gradually reduce the size and frequency of transportation needs.

"Carbon-Credits" are an unproven taxation construct; so far, it has only enrichened Al Bore.

My plan, however, will do nothing to enrichen the UAW.

If I suggested a dollar per gallon increase in the gas tax I would be the tax and spend Democrat. As far as our Capitalist development of alternative energy, China is way ahead of us. Saudi Arabia is developing solar energy systems as they realize they are now selling a finite resource. So what is the dollar per gallon for, fixing infrastructure or developing nuclear power plants? Our infrastructure is in a structurally obsolete mode.
Ford workers are in the UAW and Ford never asked the government for a dime. GM's problems were in their faulty management and that's why Obama outed their CEO. The UAW had some benefits that were excessive but they came around in the end and played ball to right the ship.
Does Tis know you suggested this gas tax increase? She got upset over a 5 cent increase in NH.

Peace_Through_Weakness's tax posture as she's busy on the New Site making sure people stay on topic.

Such an odd posture it is too. I thought we hated Tax and Spend types. I thought we only lionized the "Don't tax, but spend more anyway" types.

Hmm. I think PTW might be voting for Nader the next time around.

"...If I suggested a dollar per gallon increase in the gas tax I would be the tax and spend Democrat..."

Because you are one?

"...GM's problems were in their faulty management and that's why Obama outed their CEO..."

GM's problem is that their cars and trucks are crap: Ford, at least, makes America's most popular vehicle.

America made a mistake when it voted 52% for a person who should have no such power to run a business.

One
Big
Ass
Mistake,
America

"...Does Tis know you suggested this gas tax increase? She got upset over a 5 cent increase in NH...."

1) Didn't her question appear here—before yours—but it disappeared???

2) Government has the power to tax what one wants less of.

3) I want less Energy going into gas tanks and more into production of fertilizers, alternative energies, nuclear, solar, and merchandise.

(And am fully consistent for as long as there have been Wolfeboro forums to read about it.)

4) My proposal supplants all other new taxes.

(Meaning screwy Liberal ideas and BO's explosion of Executive Branch power that hasn't been expressed since FDR tried to convert the US Supreme Court to 15 Justices).

Ha, ha Mr. MH,Magician! I am still reading here though I just am not reading (thoroughly) all these long posts that are saying the same old stuff over and over. I skim them but that is it.
No, I think a $1.00 tax is a terrible thing. It will make the economy even worse! I hate taxes! I hate their spending! I say: :Stop, stop, stop!" but obviously they don't listen to me! And what the hell good has all of this spending done. NONE!

Politics are ruining new and old forums alike?
M. Heppelwhite

Yeah, I just have no interest in saying the same old thing over and over. And unless I think I have something new to add, forget it. I am never going to convince anyone who lives in la la land what is really happening so why try. I mean I would love to live in a perfect world too where nobody had to work and everyone had every little thing they want but it just cannot happen. Use your head!

Politics are ruining new and old forums alike?

If you see Politics as I do—the "Science of People-Management"—I find it fascinating. Especially as so many refrain from commenting on issues that will affect their children and even themselves in their dotage.

The Party of Death will see that those of us "worker-bees" who no longer contribute to the hive's productivity will be discarded.

Government, especially Leninist Government runs NOTHING well.

(Except Death).

Yeah, I just have no interest in saying the same old thing over and over.

Then don't!

Term-limits was a great idea. Somebody had to introduce the idea and excite the electorate.

Tort-reform would save the greatest HealthCare system in the world. Excite the electorate!

Raising consciousness means keeping America's passive observers in the mix, and in the news. (The REAL NEWS, that is...not the Pablum that Mass Media feeds us daily).

"...I am never going to convince anyone who lives in la la land what is really happening so why try...Use your head...!"

Kumbaya has no future?

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means. I haven't seen you approach anything "scientifically", by which I mean, using research skills to argue a position. It also means that when you're shown you be incorrect, you change your position based on the available evidence.

All I've seen you do is use childish nicknames to denigrate Lieburuls. "Party of Death" to mean "party of allowing women to choose abortions", instead of meaning "party which favors (more heavily) actively killing prisoners" for example.

The reason it's impossible to have discussions is that they turn into ad hominem attacks on something you disagree with.

Just because two people have different opinions doesn't make one person "naive" or childlike, it means people have different priorities. It is possible to have a thoughtful discussion of political issues, however it does not seem that that's possible with our userbase as it stands now.

I love how the blockquote tag looks in this new site theme, I will open that tag for all of you to use (I think it's restricted to 'advanced users' at the moment), but it looks a lot cleaner to separate comment and reply.

Just testing that an anonymous user can use this.

"...I haven't seen you approach anything...using research skills to argue a position. It also means that when you're shown you be incorrect, you change your position based on the available evidence..."

I "do" research and it is waved aside with its sole dismissive strength being Dogma.

"..."Party of Death" to mean "party of allowing women to choose abortions"..."

The Party of Death is indistinguishable from The Party of Lenin.

"...instead of meaning "party which favors (more heavily) actively killing prisoners" for example..."

"Actively killing prisoners" is what Castro has done—and is doing.

"Killing proven murderers" is a maintenance job for civilized people: George Washington would spin in his grave to witness what passes for Justice today.

("Justice Delayed is Justice Denied", is one of the oldest examples).

"...The reason it's impossible to have discussions is that they turn into ad hominem attacks on something you disagree with..."

I totally avoid ad hominem attacks, you nitwit. :)

"...Just because two people have different opinions doesn't make one person "naive" or childlike, it means people have different priorities..."

Kumbaya hadn't been thought of before Pearl Harbor: Today we celebrate Leninists like Pete Seeger of whom was written at Huffington Post:

QUOTE:

"...Leftists who go along with the sunny idea of Seeger as a principled do-gooder...do enormous damage to their own causes, to their own deeply-held beliefs in human rights, liberal democracy, and a more just society in which ordinary people have as much control as possible over their own lives. As someone on the libertarian, democratic left, I find such tributes to Pete embarrassing, and infuriating..." http://74.125.45.132/search?q=cache:OJVVfEiooQkJ:www.huffingtonpost.com/...

"...It is possible to have a thoughtful discussion of political issues, however it does not seem that that's possible with our userbase as it stands now..."

You could invite Keith: he was always taking up that biased and politically-correct "Big Media" view produced for TV.
