Mailbomb Shock and Awe
"nd" (Internal Ops admin) started a small battle today. I brought out the "Shock and Awe"
campaign and ended it. Here goes:
11a: I walked away from my machine, he opened a New Mail in outlook and
wrote "OWNEDOWNEDOWNED...". When I got back, I cut/pasted it to fill
maximum capacity and sent it to him.
1p: nd made a cron job on some unix machine to mail me every 1/2 hour
with a subject of "Your hourly Owned reminder" or somesuch.
1:40: I noticed and made an autoreply filter in Outlook with the body of
"NOPE... -> max message capacity".
2:30: nd makes a filter to forward those back to me, the body was
thankfully stripped out of his reply.
3:0o: I decided to end him, and end hostilities. I wrote a 2 line bash
script to send an email to nd, with the subject and body being
sequential dictionary words (for un-filterability). I let it run for
about 10 or 11 seconds before killing it.
3:05: nd created an Outlook autoreply to reply to each of these
messages.
3:06: nd realized that the account used as the SENDER of my messages
was really just a forwarder to him(root@oneofourmailrelays). His autoreplies start showing up in
his own mailbox (SCORE FOR ME!).
3:07: I change my (now wet) pants!
3:10: An unconditional surrender was received and hostilities have
ceased. For now. I fear I may have woken a Sleeping Giant.
3:30: "Iron Curtain" like checkpoint to be built between Internal and
Production IT Operations areas.
