Here's a quick page on the moving hell that just took place, ugh.
All moved. Here are the things that conspired against us:
- Saturday's furniture delivery was rescheduled for Sunday between 11-1p
- Storm caused everyone who was gonna help us to bail out on us
- 2 hours of shoveling Sunday morning between 7 and 9
- 10a Sunday, U-Haul promises that as long as I pick it up by 5, a truck
will be available. Snow had pretty much stopped and sun was out by
then.
- 12:45p, I and the guy (BIG thanks to Ray) Natalie was able to beg to
come help us move show up to a CLOSED U-Haul place, due to weather,
which we were no longer having.
- I fell down the flight of stairs at the apartment from the very top,
with two drawers from a flat-filing cabinet (2" x 40" x 36"), it was the
back staircase, so straight shot right out the door, fun. I am
uninjured except a massive bruise on my ass.
Had the furniture store NOT fucked us, we would have had that U-Haul at
10am, but since one of us had to stay at the house, we couldn't pick it
up. The funny thing is that Saturday really wasn't that bad, hadn't
even started snowing during the delivery window, Sunday was by far the
worst day.
The only stuff left at the apartment was pretty much cleaning supplies,
a few boxes, chairs/end tables that could fit in cars, and everything
that explicitly wouldn't fit in my Jeep. Basically, one 10' truckload
of crap.
Fortunately, my boss came through with his Expedition at around 4p on
Sunday and made two trips with us. Even still, we were there until
11:30 cleaning the damn place.
Additional bitch-slaps we recieved just for spite I guess:
After spending 4 hours dusting, mopping, scrubbing the apartment until
11:30pm, the realtors claim not to have received a deposit for the
place. I propose that I should go in, say "I would like to rent an
apartment, I will not be paying a deposit", and see how long it takes to
get tossed out on my already-bruised ass.
The refrigerator that we ordered 4 weeks ago was rescheduled from
Tuesday the 9th to Tuesday the 16th. I stole a mini-fridge from work,
the barn has been keeping things cold too though.
On the plus side, we got the bathroom painted, the kitchen primered and
2 coats of REALLY thin red paint, and the dining room wallpaper is down,
dining room is primered and will be painted tonight.
I can't believe the staggering amount of stuff that went wrong. I'm
completely blown away. However, thanks to hard-working friends we were
able to pull it through regardless. Though I REALLY wish we had had
that truck. Oh well, all's well that, well, ends.
I also got to do my first guy-like homeowner task, and cranked up the
heat on the water heater. Monday I got a freezing cold end of my
shower, and I was the first one of us to take one. That had to end :-) |
