The Pogues – Sea Shanty
I'm no kind of authority on Rodrigo y Gabriela, beyond the fact that they're awesome and you should see them, I've never kicked them out of an iTunes DJ playlist, ever. I gather they started trying to play metal, didn't make money at it in Mexico, moved to Ireland and got huge with speed-acoustic music. I also know that whoever Gabriela's orthopedic surgeon is, he must drive a very, very nice car. The hammering she does on her guitar is amazing, amazingly fast and amazingly loud. I can't imagine retiring with perfect joints after 30 years of that, but it sounds awesome now, so it's not like I'm telling her to stop.
I liked the Cuban infusion their music got with this latest release and tour, along with the hard rock and metal phrases they throw in, to say nothing of the Tool intro, that was a good idea. Apart from the obvious Zeppelin, we also got bites of Metallica, Pantera, a jokey second of G 'n R. Even Stevie Ray Vaughan of all people didn't try to play every note of Superstition, that was pretty ambitious.
One thing I do regret is I didn't note the names of the other musicians, and didn't catch the name of the opening guy. I gather he was a hasty addition to the tour, and he was good, I've got some photos of him I'll upload if I dig his name up.
If you know that stuff, you can login below using your FaceBook account and let me know, I'll update the page. All the musicians were great, I liked the bassist singing along to his bass line during his solos, awesome pianos/keyboards, and you don't see enough flugelhorns in modern music, glad to see someone decided to get on top of that deficit.
Lots more photos over on Flickr:

Pretty good example of what was like a "Rodrigo Strummer" pose

Maybe if I wish hard enough, that photo will have come out better than it did
